Setting up service categories and your menu

Last updated: 2026-08-15

Grouping your services well makes it easier for customers to book. The Admin > Services screen has two buttons for managing your category list and service list together. Categories act as the tabs or section headings that group services on the booking page, so while they barely matter with a handful of services, they become close to essential once your menu grows.

  1. Go to Admin > Services.
  2. Click Add Category first to create a broad grouping (e.g. Haircut, Perm, Colour). (Optional)
  3. Click Add Service to register individual treatments.
  4. When you assign a category to a service, it appears neatly grouped on the booking page.

Example: nail studio "Nail by G" has built up three categories over time — Manicure, Pedicure, and Nail Art — and assigns every service to one of them. One busy afternoon the owner adds a new "Gel Removal" service in a hurry and forgets to assign it a category. The service doesn't disappear — it still shows up on the booking page under "Other". The catch is that a customer expecting to find gel removal near "Nail Art" might not think to scroll down to "Other" and give up looking. Opening the service later and assigning it to "Manicure" fixes the grouping straight away.

What happens if I don't assign a category?

A category isn't required. Any service left uncategorised is automatically grouped under "Other" on the booking page, so it's never hidden just because it lacks a category. That said, as your menu grows, organising services into categories makes it easier for customers to find the treatment they want.
