Setting break times vs. temporary closed days

Last updated: 2026-08-15

Regular recurring breaks and one-off closures need to be set up differently. Mixing the two up either blocks bookings on a day you're actually open, or lets bookings through on a day you meant to close.

Daily recurring lunch/break times

Add a break time per weekday in Settings > Business Hours (e.g. 12:00–13:00 every day). The key point is that this setting repeats every time that weekday comes around — once you've set it, you don't need to re-enter it week after week; that slot stays blocked on that weekday indefinitely.

Temporary closed days and public holidays

Use Settings > Closed Periods for this.

  • Use it for store-wide public holidays or the owner's personal leave.
  • Set a specific date and time range and bookings are fully blocked for that period.
  • You can block a whole day, or just part of one — for example, only "25 August, 14:00–18:00".

Example: nail studio "Studio Lena" has a recurring 12:00–13:00 lunch break set on weekdays in Business Hours. If the owner needs to shut the whole salon for three days (20–22 August) for personal reasons, that belongs in Closed Periods, not Business Hours. If she mistakenly added those three days as weekday break times instead, that weekday would stay blocked every single week going forward, disrupting bookings on that weekday for months. The reverse mistake is just as painful: entering the daily recurring lunch break as a separate closed period for every individual date makes the settings endless to maintain.

What does it look like when a break time overlaps a slot?

A time slot that overlaps a break time or a closed period simply disappears from the list of available times — there's no error message. Both the admin and the customer just see that slot as unavailable to select. In the example above, if a customer opens the booking page on 21 August (inside the closed period), the date itself is still selectable, but no time slots at all appear for that day.
